Last Thursday, on February 19, an exclusive wine dinner took place in Zagreb’s Apetit City restaurant. Chefs of Meneghetti and Apetit City restaurants joined forces, and all the dishes were paired with grand wines from Meneghetti Winery’s archives.
Chefs of these two restaurants alternated while preparing courses, so the menu included dishes by Stjepan Bistrički, Apetit’s chef – cream of Jerusalem artichoke and fennel soup, wild boar fillet with seasonal vegetables and porcini mushroom sponge, and dishes by Meneghetti chefs Bojan Vuković and Danijela Pifar – Meneghetti beef tartare, Istrian ravioli with beef tongue and Chocolate Game for dessert, made from Meneghetti buža olive oil, fleur de sal, vanilla ice cream, and dark chocolate and peperoncino ganache cream. At the end of the dinner, guests weer served chocolate pralines created by Meneghetti in cooperation with Vilma, the famous pastry shop from the Island of Rab. Along with top-quality chocolate, the pralines include various Meneghetti products, and five different kinds were served – praline with Leccino olive oil and fleur de sal from Nin, praline with Istrian bjelica olive oil, white chocolate praline with Dubrovnik malvasija, praline with Merlot, and praline with fig and Meneghetti cognac. From this season, all pralines will regularly be on offer in Meneghetti restaurant.
Large format wine bottles also made the evening special. Apart from being interesting because of their size and names, the purpose of large bottles is to enable the wines to age even longer and better in comparison with the standard size bottles. Archive wines were served at dinner – Meneghetti Brut 2002 from 1.5-litre magnum bottles, Meneghetti White 2009 and 2010, and, as a special treat at the end, three vintages of the winery’s best wine, Meneghetti Red 2010, 2009 and 2008, from 5- and 6-litre bottles.
