1819

Austrian-Hungarian Arrival

With the annexation of Istria, the Austro-Hungarian Empire establishes a strategic naval presence along the Adriatic. The region enters a new era of infrastructure, agriculture and military supply, shaping the landscape that would define Meneghetti’s origins.

Late 19th century

The Meneghetti Estate

Adjacent to a major Austro-Hungarian military base, a landowner known as Mr Meneghetti establishes an agricultural estate near Bale. Vineyards, olive groves and stone buildings support the nearby garrison and its officers.

Mid 20th century

Years of Silence

As military relevance fades, the estate gradually falls into disuse. Once productive land and buildings are left to time and nature, becoming a quiet ruin within the Istrian countryside.

2000

Rediscovery

The abandoned estate is rediscovered by Miroslav Plišo and Romana Kajfež. Recognising its potential, they begin a careful restoration, guided by respect for Istrian architecture, landscape and the estate’s agricultural heritage.

2001

The First Revival

The winery opens its doors, marking the return of wine production to the estate. New vineyards are planted, olive groves restored and the foundations laid for a modern expression of Meneghetti.

2004

A Boutique Beginning

2013

Relais & Châteaux

Meneghetti becomes a member of Relais & Châteaux, affirming its position among the world’s leading destinations rooted in heritage, gastronomy and sense of place.

2016–2023

Thoughtful Growth

A series of carefully phased expansions adds new residences, villas and a modern winery. Each phase respects the estate’s architectural language while expanding its capacity and experiences.

2025

A New Chapter Unfolds

The estate evolves further with the opening of an expanded spa, the Garden Pavilion event venue and renewed landscape design, reinforcing Meneghetti as a destination shaped by time and intention.
